CRC Racing’s Craig Dontas is aiming to claim some final podium positions to close out the final round for the 2016 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Sydney 500.

The Sydney 500 will send off the V8 Utes for the last round of utes for the year, and it is the last time the Utes will race at Homebush.

“We generally go pretty well at Homebush, but it’s a challenging circuit, very tight and lots of aggressive curves that you need to hit in the right spot. You have to get on the throttle in the right spot to keep your wits about you so it’s a really exciting track.”

Following a crash in Race 2 of the Gold Coast 600, the CRC Racing Ute was written off after impact to the rear caused to much irreparable damage.

The Sieders Racing Team have pulled off a small miracle in producing a brand new Ute in time for Homebush.

“The boys have moved heaven and earth to build a new car, the damage was severe and the rear impact pushed everything right through to the gearbox, it was a bin job, so we started from scratch with a new ute.”

Dontas and the team performed a shake down on the new Number 45 Ute at Wayville Park Raceway last week, reporting a perfect and fast session.

Although Dontas missed the final Race at the Gold Coast 600, it was later abandoned which means Dontas can still fight to reach the Championship podium in Sydney.

After a challenging year on and off track for Dontas, the aim is to produce good results to conclude his year on a high.

“The aim is to get ourselves into a podium position, the competition has been so fierce all year, the hardest thing has been staying consistent. We have been consistent all year, but the last two rounds have been a massive kick in the guts. We are looking for a good result and I just want to finish off strong and give the team and crew the result they deserve because they have been doing such a great job all year.”

Dontas will now head to the Sydney 500, for Round 8 of the 2016 V8 Ute Championship from December 2-4 with all races to be televised LIVE on FOX Sports.
